On the wire

two preening crows

shed the sudden downpour

from their blackness

caws shed light on disgust

which draws attention

to a single gull's delight

as perched just

one line higher

the triangle

                   white

        black                  black

against a fast moving cloud

suggests

Poe and Plath

a delightful horror

not at midnight

but at dawn.

  1. Brilliant! When single white shines because there's double black.

  2. I really enjoyed reading this poem. The use of metaphors as well as the over all structure of the is delightful. Funny that you should mention Plath. Just yesterday, I wrote a poem as a tribute to her. You can read it on my blog. Again, wonderful piece of writing.

  4. I fricken love this poem. Visually. Yes, yes! Black and white photography. Shadows off to the side. And then BANG, Poe and Plath.

I just saw them, you know, one sitting on the fence, face off to the side. Must have been Plath. And then a little menacing in the wires, Poe. I said, well, hey there you two, and I turned toward the back of the house. I was a little afraid, you know.

Awesome poem, Robert. This one stands awfully firm!
